"We are so accustomed to disguise ourselves to others that in the end we become disguised to ourselves."

Finally I managed to make a picture of this work, though I'm afraid the picture's quality isn't the best :(

Inspired after Thomas Gainsborough (great artist of 18th century).

40/50 cm, oil colors on canvas

Really intereting. I like how her face has been removed to only become another one of her many masks. Great concept.

I love when I find jewels like this simply browsing randomly.
Love how you intended a mask as the real face.

I recently had a similar idea for a painting...similar concept, i should say. I've got a thing with the whole concept of masks, both real and symbolic, so this really caught my eye. Let's see if I can give you my interpretation:)

I'd imagine that the masks are the faces you show to the world. They're all the labels you put on when and where appropriate, the personalities you use that are not the real you. The smiling customer service face you put on at work, the obediant child face you wear for your parents, the happy, everything's-alright face you show to your friends, etc. The stitching in particular seems to indicate that this is a painful process, hiding who you really are all the time. There is only one mask there that looks real, but it is being held off to the side; your true self is put on the backburner, perhaps still visible, but not really worn. It's not as convient as the simplicity of the other masks; perhaps it is flawed, or too complex for the world to accept. The world likes things simple, 30 second commercial spots, stereotypes, beautiful, shallow tv personalities. Your real self is unacceptable because it doesn't fit into a nice cookie cutter mold like the rest of the masks.

I love the style of this, the period clothing, the feeling of a society portrait. I think that fits the concept of the painting perfectly.

Hope this wasn't too long and boring, that was my 50 cents or so;)

Yeah, it's nice to know people have seen your work and liked it, but it's even better to get something longer than "Cool!" It means they had to look at your work for longer than 2 seconds:)

That's true; sometimes it's hard to think of something to say, even when you love something.

Beautiful surrelistic image....or maybe not so unreal, since most of us don't even know what our real face is...we just keep trying out masks to see which one fits better....

Love it!...

Wow - speaks so much truth about human nature and how we all wear masks. I love it! Very profound. You captured the concept beautifully.

wow its fascinating how i didnt realise she had 4 arms straight away. it's like a comfortable surreality. my favorite part is the cracked mask being clenched round the mouth. interesting angles.

Interesting concept - under her real face, which can be taken as a mask, lay other ones, which she changes every now and then. The many faces of a soul, one may ask?
Well, whatever it be, it's lovely how you arranged everything on the canvas. There are 3 masks in the upper/lower half, as well as in the left/right half. Balanced
The colors are pretty pale, but it fits great the whole mood of the painting.

..And I think you signed yourself twice :) Heh, that's probably how they do it these days..
